As global warming, land degradation, population growth and other issues loom large, researchers must find new ways to improve crop yields and resilience. Over the past decade, rapid advances in multiomics, including genomics, have led to a deep understanding of the functional genomes of a variety of crops. Genomic breeding, which combines genetics, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, has great potential to change the status quo of agricultural production, but also faces great challenges. How to design efficient and accurate algorithms to extract useful information from massive and complex genomic data is one of the main problems of current research. Following the success of the inaugural event in 2023, we will organize the “2nd Genome Breeding Algorithm Competition” in July-November 2024, inviting researchers and data scientists from all over the world to jointly develop new algorithms for genome breeding and contribute to the development of global agriculture.
